π’ Announcing: CIGRE Substation Fundamentals Green Book Training Course β Dublin, 29β30 September 2026
CIGRE Ireland is delighted to bring the internationally recognised SC B3 Green Book training course to our local community β a 2-day event at Engineers Ireland, 22 Clyde Road, Dublin.
The CIGRE Green Books are the flagship reference publications of our industry, distilling decades of Technical Brochures into definitive best practice. This course, developed by a working party of the B3 Study Committee, covers two core subject areas:
πΉ Substation Planning β from network planning and identifying the need for a new substation, through system requirements, site selection and switching configurations, to specification, bid evaluation and construction contract management.
πΉ Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) β primary component design, enclosures and gas zones, insulation coordination, earthing and high-frequency transients, civil works, condition monitoring including UHF partial discharge, and testing.
You’ll be learning directly from contributing authors of the Substations Green Book:
π€ John Finn (UK) β primary author of the training course material
π€ Colm Twomey (IRL)
π€ Hugh Cunningham (IRL)
π€ Jan Bednarik (IRL)
Beyond the technical content, this is a rare opportunity to spend two days networking with some of the best substation and energy professionals in Ireland and beyond β from Green Book authors to peers across utilities, developers and consultancies.
β οΈ Places are limited β early bird registration closes 7 August 2026, and booking early is strongly recommended.
