The CIGRE Science & Engineering Journal was launched in 2015 to replace the publication of scientific papers in Electra, but with more ambitious objectives. This quarterly Journal is the outcome of CIGRE’s desire to broaden its publication to articles of interest for its members and non-members and it is freely available to download on the CIGRE website: www.cigre.org
The intent of the CIGRE Science & Engineering Journal is to publish high quality papers on current research, development and practical application case studies related to all aspects of electrical power and energy technologies. As such, papers submitted to the journal undergo strict and thorough peer review by some of the most respected international experts in the field. The review process typically does not take more than two months. CIGRE has applied for a Science Citation Index (SCI) and thus impact factors should be available soon.
This is great opportunity for university staff, students and others to have their work peer reviewed by international experts and ultimately have their work published to a global audience.
Congratulations to Dr Ivan Dudurych, from EirGrid, author of “Operational Security Challenges and Tools for a Synchronous Power System with High Penetration of Non-conventional Sources” that has been selected as the best paper of Study Committee C2 at the 2016 Cigre Paris Session. This paper describes the effects of the increasing penetration of RES on the operational security of the Ireland and Northern Ireland power system and the development of metrics, techniques and tools to adequately deal with high and variable levels of non-synchronous generation while maintaining operational security. Dr Dudurych’s paper will be published in the February 2017 edition of the CIGRE Science & Engineering Journal.
